AZBUKA celebrates remote learning of high quality

At AZBUKA, staff and children have risen to the challenge of lockdown by ensuring that the provision of our broad and rich curriculum continues. By providing live teaching, subject content while adapted to suit remote provision, remains engaging, stimulating and personal.

In English, children are exposed to high quality, diverse texts that stimulate their imaginations and challenge them with important themes to stimulate discussion and debate. Through carefully planned activities, teachers develop children’s comprehension, eg through role-play, evidence hunting, writing in role, comparing texts with similar themes to name a few.

In World Around Us, children are kept engaged as teachers take them on voyages from prehistoric times (the dinosaurs and Stone Ages), through Ancient civilisations (the Greeks and Egyptians), into modern eras.

Children discuss and learn about important issues affecting the world and work collaboratively to suggest ways we can improve our impact on the environment. Science, Music, Art, PE, Philosophy and PSHE are included so that links and connections can be made across all subjects.

To complement our English, Maths and World Around us units, specialists also provide Circus and Dance! Virtual visits to museums and places of interest; online theatre/music shows; virtual visits from authors, musicians and actors further enhance our broad and rich curriculum.

Romanoff Foundation launches scholarship for talented AZBUKA students

Talented students are invited to apply for a £1,000 annual scholarship towards their studies at Azbuka, the London-based Russian-English bilingual school, as part of an innovative new partnership with the Romanoff Foundation, a UK based charity.
The award marks a fresh expansion to supporting education and Russian culture and language projects in the UK for the Romanoff Foundation, which helps people in need in Russia and the CIS countries and supports cultural and educational projects in the Russian diaspora.

It will help nurture the strong growth and success of Azbuka, the pioneering school and educational resource centre for bilingualism, which has drawn on two decades of experience to operate a thriving nursery and primary school in west London.

Andrei Rodzianko, Trustee of the Romanoff Foundation, said: “We are proud to support Azbuka’s first class bi-lingual education curriculum in London with our scholarship program.  Azbuka’s work and mission aligns closely with the foundation’s aim of supporting the Russian speaking diaspora.  As we start on the journey of supporting a talented student at Azbuka we hope to expand the programme with additional fundraising efforts.”

Maria Gavrilova, founder and head of the Azbuka Foundation, said: “This exciting partnership is a welcome recognition of Azbuka’s role in developing highly effective Russian-English bilingual education combining the best of both cultures to prepare children for the future. It will help us continue to grow and offer access to talented children regardless of background or economic circumstances.”

All new and current students attending the Azbuka School will be eligible to apply for the 2021 scholarship. They should show particular talent in areas such as languages, literature or creative writing; science and maths; history and humanities; music, art, dance or drama; or sport.

The first scholarship will be for the current 2020-2021 academic year, and may be either renewed or granted to another student for following years. Applications are open till  February 22 and a decision will be made by March 15.

The Romanoff Foundation was founded by Prince Dimitri Romanoff and other family members in the early 1990s to assist people in need in the CIS. In 2018, the charity expanded its board and broadened its objectives to also support cultural and educational initiatives in the Russian speaking diaspora.

Azbuka School is run by a non-profit charity. It has been given a good rating in Ofsted inspections, and is a member of the Independent Schools Association. It maintains the lowest possible fees to ensure wide access.
